Saint Ignatius Parish has established
the following policies regarding the reception of the sacraments for
our youth.
Baptism: Parents are to call the Christian
Formation Office, (419) 693-7662 to make arrangements. Parents are to
attend a parent Session which is held on the second Sunday of the month
at 10:00am or the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm. Meetings are
held in the library of the Parish Life Center.
Eucharist: Children must have consistent
attendance at Christian Formation classes for two years to be eligible
to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist.
The child will have an understanding of who Jesus is, including his
life, death and resurrection. The child will know the difference between
ordinary bread and the Eucharist. The child will want to receive the
Sacrament of the Eucharist.
To accomplish this, the parents are to be actively involved in their
child’s preparation. Parents will receive a schedule of the
times they are expected to attend classes.
Reconciliation: Before receiving the sacrament
the child will have developed a personal relationship with God. He
or she will be able to distinguish between moral right and wrong,
what is a learning experience and what is a mistake or accident. The
child will understand sin is a deliberate, non-loving action or omission.
The child will be truly sorry for the sin and be able to express sorrow.
The child will be comfortable with the forms of reconciliation.
To accomplish this parents are to be actively involved in their child’s
preparation. Parents will receive a schedule of classes they are expected
to attend.
Confirmation: Confirmation is one of the Sacraments
of Initiation, the others being Baptism and Eucharist. Candidates will have a
knowledge and understanding of the beliefs of the Catholic Faith and be able to
express their love of God. They will be able to express their beliefs in action
and word. They will make a commitment to the Catholic Faith commensurate with their age.
To accomplish this, the candidate will have attended religious instructions in the past and
will now take part in special sessions along with their sponsor/parent. The sponsor/parent
will be actively involved in the special sessions.
