BAPTISM

div

Baptism plunges the newcomer into the power of Christ's death to sin and his rising to new life, the Paschal mystery. Now a child of God, Baptism brings membership in the body of Christ, the Church. Baptism is most meaningfully celebrated with the community at Sunday Mass, but can also be celebrated privately.

To make arrangements to have a child receive the Sacrament of Baptism, parents are to call the Parish Office. First time parents will need to attend a class where the responsibilities of being the parents of a Catholic child will be explained. The date and time for the baptism will be arranged with the Parish Office after this class has been completed. Parents who have had an older child baptized within 5 years do not need to attend the class again. At least one of the godparents must be a practicing Catholic. If not a Catholic, the other godparent must be a practicing Christian. Godparents must be fully initiated Catholics (Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation) and be willing to be a good role model for the child.

Adults who wish to receive the Sacrament of Baptism need to call the Parish office to make arrangements. Ordinarily, they will be entered into the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Program.

Families expecting a child, are invited to call the Parish office at (419)693-1150.
